 Directions

Please note that due to repair works by the M.C.G.M., the temporary access to the Museum is through the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan from E.S. Patanwala Road. See the map for reaching the alternate entrance. Once inside the gate, follow the signage to reach the Museum. Drop off and pick up points can be at the main gate for elderly citizens and persons with disabilities but vehicles and visitors are not allowed in through the main gate.

Access route by car: via Dadoji Konddev Marg | Street Parking, at the owner's risk.

Access route by foot: via E.S. Patanwala Marg

How to get here

Rani Baug (Chidiya ghar or zoo), Byculla (East) is a major landmark in the area. The Museum is located in the same compound, a 2 mins walk from Byculla (East) Station.

The Museum is wheelchair friendly. The Museum and Plaza may be accessed by ramps, with hydraulic lift to access the first floor.

Free Public Tours

Free public tours are conducted every weekend by a member of the curatorial team. The tours encourage visitors of diverse backgrounds, age and interests to engage with the Museum collection, history, architecture and contemporary exhibitions. No prior registration required, enquire at the Ticket Counter for details or to sign-up.

Private Tours

Groups may book themed tours on request. Particularly popular are tours that focus on the history, development and cultural heritage of Mumbai. Groups may also book interpretive tours of the Museum’s temporary special exhibitions. Our tours can be conducted for audiences of varied age and interests.

 Audio Guide

The Museum’s interpretive audio guide uses state of the art technology to bring to life the stories of the Museum - its history, architecture and collections.

 Shop

The Museum Shop supports traditional craftsmen and NGOs and has a unique selection of gifts, many of which have been inspired by the Museum collection. On display are Museum inspired mugs, bags, postcards, puppets, diaries and magnets as well as traditional products like paper mache, bidri, shawls and bronze statues. A wide range of coffee table books, artist monologues and publications on Mumbai are also available.

 Cafe

Visitors have the opportunity to relax and take a break whilst exploring the galleries or enjoying a performance. Overlooking the open, green environment of the Plaza, the Museum Cafe offers a wide selection of specialty teas, coffees, snacks, cold beverages and Wi-Fi.

 Museum Polices

The Museum endeavours to make every visit a special and memorable one. We hope you will assist us by following the rules while on the premises.

  • Please cooperate with Museum staff and security personnel to ensure your safety.

  • Deposit large bags, backpacks and water bottles at the counter.

  • Take care of your belongings and accompanying children.

  • Note the Museum’s established photography guidelines, listed below.

  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the Museum premises.

  • If you need to attend to a phone call, please step out of the Museum galleries so as to not disturb other visitors.

  • No outside food or beverages are allowed inside the Museum premises.

  • No weapons or flammable items are allowed inside the Museum premises.

  • Chewing gum, gutka or paan is not allowed inside the Museum premises.

 Photography Guidelines

  • Museum visitors are permitted to take photographs only for personal and non-commercial use.

  • Photographs taken on the premises cannot be published, sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever.

  • Visitors may take photographs in the Museum’s permanent display galleries and the Plaza without the use or aid of a flash, tripod or monopod.

  • Video and the use of movie or film cameras is strictly prohibited.

  • Please show consideration for the experience and privacy of other visitors when taking photographs.

  • Do not take photographs of other visitors, staff, administrative offices, INTACH Conservation Lab, INTACH Documentation Centre, Special Exhibitions Gallery, Special Project Space and Education Centre without prior permission.

  • Photography is not permitted in the Museum Shop for commercial reasons.
